static IPs
A static IP address is a permanent address for your computer. Instead of street names and house numbers, it's a series of numbers and dots (called a dotted quad) that allows computers to locate and talk to one another on the Internet, similar to the way in which we use phone numbers to locate and talk to people.
While it would be nice if we could give everyone a static IP address, there are unfortunately a limited number of IP addresses in existence. This means we have to limit how many static IPs are allocated to our plans from our IP pool. Those plans that do not receive or require a static IP will be allocated a temporary IP address called a dynamic IP address.
A static IP allows you to host your own services on your broadband connection without needing to notify everyone each time you reconnect to the Internet. Services can include a web or ftp server for distributing content, hosting your own mail server to run a mailing list or provide additional mailboxes, or hosting your own games servers.
how can I get a static IP?
When you purchase a business plan you get one static IP.
The business plans also give you the option to add an additional block of 4 IPs for no additional fee upon request. If you need more than this allocation, we require that you submit a network diagram with the number of IPs you require. Additional blocks start at $64 for a block of 4 IPs. Please contact us for more information.
| Number of IPs | Cost per year |
|---|---|
| 4 | $64 |
| 8 | $128 |
| 16 | $256 |
| 32 | $512 |
Please note: The first and last IP of each block is not useable. Therefore, a block of 4 IPs contains two useable IPs.
